What is Odyssey of the Mind?
Odyssey of the Mind is an international creative problem-solving competition that challenges students to use their imagination, creativity, and teamwork to solve complex problems. The program was founded in 1978 and has since grown to include teams from around the world.
Each year, Odyssey of the Mind presents teams with five long-term problems that fall into categories such as engineering, performance, and technical. Teams must choose one of these problems to solve and work together to develop a solution. The solutions can be presented in the form of a play, a skit, a model, or any other format that the team chooses.
In addition to the long-term problem, teams are also given a spontaneous problem that they must solve on the spot. These problems can be verbal or hands-on, and teams must work together to come up with a creative solution under a time-limit.
Odyssey of the Mind encourages creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in students of all ages. It also fosters teamwork and collaboration, as students must work together to develop their solutions. We’re proud to have this program be a part of the Northgate School District as it provides a unique opportunity for students to showcase their talents and skills.
